Wacken Open Air Metal Festival 1.-3.8 2002

Saturday

Last festival day began quite well, although the people in the camp had seen better days. The party stage time table had undergone some major rewriting so we missed some of the bands.

A new morning and the weather looked good again. First to play was Stormwitch, who did a good work waking up the people.

Next up at the party stage, Rottweiler, did not leave any special memories.

Ay caramba! These guys looked quite funny when they moshed, their hats bobbing.

Medium
Large
Amon Amarth on black stage.

Medium
Large
Amon performed a very well, the band seemed to have powered up a lot before the gig.

Medium
Large
Despite the protests of the bassplayer who pleaded on the rough evening, they kept the hair rotating.

Even the crowd had some difficulties keeping up.

Medium

...when the band just kept on going, and going. All-in-all the gig was one of the best of the whole festival, not at all like the last year Tuska-festival where the band played less than satisfactory.

Medium

On the true metal stage Vicious Rumors began their set.

This was a totally unknown to me, and it didn't sound very exciting so we moved over to the party stage.

The festival area started to get populated.

Medium

On the wet stage, Kalmah, another great Finnish band.

Medium

The bassplayer.

Medium

An energetic mosher in the crowd that also functioned as air-conditioner :-)

A quick nip back at the camp where we had some Finnish visitors.

Medium

And Turku.

Medium
Large
One of the most anticipated bands of the day, Immortal on black stage.

Medium
Large

Medium
Large
There was quite a large crowd despite the heat.

Medium
Large
This three-member band did an excellent gig.

Medium
Large
At the wet stage, Vision Divine.

Medium
Large
They played quite loud, based on the faces of those who did not use ear-props.

At some stage, they lost their second guitarist.

Suidakra on wet stage.

Medium

Unfortunately the tent was so packed that we couldn't get in properly, so we had to settle for listening to a few songs at the opening. A shame really since their material was really interesting.

Medium
Large
Perhaps he didn't get enough drink and passed out out of thirst?

Medium
Large
Heathen on the party stage. The schedule of the party stage was really screwed. Some believed this to be Savatage :-)

Medium
Large

Medium
Large
I found this little creature sitting in front of the black stage waiting for the next band to play :-)

Medium
Large
Which was Cannibal Corpse.

Medium
Large

Medium
Large

Medium
Large
Some of the other bands followed with interest the Cannibal show.

Medium
Large
Who did a very aggressive gig.

Medium
Large
Next was the main artist perhaps of the whole festival, Blind Guardian.

Medium
Large
Unfortunatelly the combination of darkness and the f**cking camera-boom ruined most of the pics.

Medium
Large
And their stageset was quite impressive.

Medium
Large
Meanwhile, back at the camp, people waited for the next performer, Lemon reading the local contact-magazine.

Medium
Large
While our gruppenwal lay dormant.

Medium
Large
Last documented performer of the night, Kreator on black stage.

Medium
Large
The whole festival area was quite crowded so we had to settle for a few tele-shots.

Medium
Large
As you can see.

Medium
Large
And the burning skull.
