Captains Log, Stardate 15.4. 0730: It's snowing!! And a look outside
in the morning immediately told it had been doing so the whole night.
When we got to the Mir station at 3500m, there was like 40-50cm of fresh
snow, and more would come all the time.

The skiing was initially superb, as there was fresh snow, but the
absolute lack of visibility and the heaviness of the snow soon weared
the enthusiasm off.
|
|
On the lower parts there was some 50m of visibility, whereas in the upper
sections it was closer to 5m.

Went to the "Kubol" (a local bar/restaurant) to have dinner and drinks.

Our guide Liza, who lives nearby, joined us for an hour or so.

Their selection carried Loewenbrau! I was stricken. Had to try one --
and more after that.

When we got back to the lodge, King Arttur playing his game --
and the bar was closed! I knocked on the door, and suddenly the owner
burst out of her room and asken whether I wanted beer. How convenient,
I thought, and got one for everybody. Sweet dreams soon thereafter.

The 6th day opened sunny and cool -- the temperature was at 0 degrees
even in the valley. Then I just knew today the snow would rule.

Reached Mir at about 1030. The chairlift up to the barrels was broken,
so we had to settle for 3500m. The snow was wonderful and
there was enough of it to sink a leg in to the knee.

The first powder run of the week. Woohooo! What a feeling. I couldn't
but laugh of joy.
