Ecuador west coast
Our original plan was to do Macchu Picchu and Lake Titicaca in Peru
after returning from Galapagos, but during our time there we grew so fond
of Ecuador that we decided that ancient ruins would have to wait till next
year, we would go bus tripping on the Ecuadorian west coast we had heard
so many good things about.

Started off from a small dirt road fishing village called Puerto Lopez,
to which we took a bus from Guyaguil for some 5 hours, 4 usd. After lunch
we continued on our way down south towards the even smaller villages.
Frankly we're amazed about the ease of bus travel here; everyone is so
kind even though we totally lack the language skills, and we're constantly
being escorted to the correct transportation.

Waiting for the bus change in Jipijapa.

A typical street view in Puerto Lopez.

Went swimming before moving on. Quite deserted place, just some fisherman
buzzing around and a handful of tourists waiting for next form of
transportation out of here.

Spent our first night on the coast in a jungle resort. Rather pricey,
but cozy. Let the relaxation begin.

Moved on to Montanita, the Ecuadorian surf/beach mecca. Lots of
backpackers and domestic tourists, and the prices were low accordingly,
sun hot, beaches brilliant and the waters brisk. Ended up staying a week
and loving every second.

First beach sandals I ever bought

|
Took a bus to the next village 3-4 km away and walked back on the sand.
The beach was so solid you could drive a truck on it and not leave
much tracks.

Our accommodation on the top floor, recognize the towels? Cost some 7 usd
per night per person, had hammocks and all :) Shower was out for a few days
though, but thats details.

Fast satellite internet! Only time during the whole trip I splurged with
a moment with computers.

Sunset at Puerto Lopez. Time to head off to Guyaguil and then Mexico
the next day. Thanks Ecuador, you were our favourite stop this trip.
