Rio de Janeiro

1830: Takeoff at from Finland. Rio, here we come!

0600: Arrived in Rio. Jetlagged queueing with some teutons for 2 hours
before getting into the country. Must have been the fastest 12-hour flight
ever, think I slept 2/3 of it.
0830: Got to the city. Timo met us at the busstop, having gotten us a place
to stay. "Met some Manuel there on the beach" he says, "and got a room from
him". Haha :) In the end the place was a 3-room apartment, very nice + clean,
for 90R$/night. Not bad start for the trip, considering the place is just
3 blocks from the beach.
1100: the morning's started well, drank like 6 beers already and the sun's
great. Lunch.
1800: decided to go and see some football @ at the Maracana stadium. Lost
my camera there and with it all the pictures of the game.

Our (blackmarket) ticket to the Botafogo game, which was a Carioca cup
final, and they won 3-1. Bought a team shirt even.

Sweet swimming in the calm waves of Copacabana. Sure beats working!

Woke up at 0600, went out for breakfast and to look for a new camera.
No luck, the electronics here cost a fortune. Went to Corcovado, and purchased
a crappy film camera. That will have to do! Gotta book flights later.

Up early again, went to get tickets from a nearby Varig office. Got some too,
all the way to Foz de Iguaco and Manaus via Sao Paolo. Took an hour.
After that went to see the Sugar Loaf mountain. Even more turisty than
Corcovado! Almost got stampeded by old/fat americans. Planning to
see a samba show tonight. Probably will fail to do so.

The lower cable car station. Another nice view, this time over Botafogo bay.

Timo + Riikka posing, in the background is the domestic airport.

1630: Started doing Caipirinhas in downtown. Plan is to go beachside after
dinner. Fuck samba! The night ended rather wickedly.

|
Heading out. Time to leave Rio behind. "Manuel" taking us to the airport.
