| Tallinn, 191 KB The beginning of our trip. |

| Riga, 175 KB The corridor of the hostel we stayed in Riga. Fortunately the rooms were actually very nice. |

| Riga, 168 KB Some electric works. Nice. |

| Riga, 315 KB The Pigeon Guy |

| Riga, 135 KB Having dinner at [insert the name of the place here]. We picked this place up from the Lonely Planet and yes, it was nice. Actually, anywhere we ate in Riga we got very well prepared food, although quite basic. |

| Riga, 137 KB Went for a drink to the 26th floor of the Latvija hotel. |

| Riga, 107 KB Views from the bar |

| Riga, 132 KB I thought this was the House of Cats but apparently it's not. It looks nice anyway. |

| Riga, 186 KB
|

| Riga, 147 KB The cat had found a nice place for a nap. It's an Audi TT it is sleeping on. |

| Riga, 221 KB St. Peter's Cathedral on the left, House of Blackheads on the right. Next to the House of Blackheads is the Latvian Occupation Museum, worth the visit. |

| Riga, 177 KB "Mr. Blackhead, I presume?" The founder of the club. |

| Riga, 208 KB
|

| Riga, 364 KB A nice small park in the middle of the town. You could rent pedal boats and stuff here. |

| Riga, 315 KB The park had a small hill, we heroicly climbed on top of it. |

| Riga, 224 KB There were locks with names of couples on them all around the bridges. We also saw one newly-wed husband carrying the bride over one bridge so maybe these two habits are related. |

| Riga, 229 KB The national art museum is closed on Tuesdays (!) and we didn't know that. Here we are sitting on the stairs of the museum disappointed, trying to find other museums from Lonely Planet. |

| Riga, 281 KB R.A.T.T. |

| Riga, 185 KB Double Coffee. They make excellent ice cream coctails ;) |

| Riga, 193 KB
|

| Riga, 205 KB
|

| Riga, 145 KB Having some drinks before going to bed |

| Riga, 138 KB The street of our hostel at night. |

| Vilnius, 249 KB Arrived to Vilnius at afternoon. Too bad Mikko was sick today and had to stay at the hotel :/ |

| Vilnius, 194 KB The Cathedral of Vilnius |

| Vilnius, 158 KB A tower next to the Cathedral, The Sight of Vilnius they say. |

| Vilnius, 247 KB Old meets new. A view behind the Cathedral. On top of the hill is the Gediminas' Tower (Grand Duke's Tower) |

| Vilnius, 215 KB Having lunch. In the table next to us was a guy that started discussion with us with words "You're from Finland? The country that has an alcoholic problem". Well he actually told us some interesting things about former Soviet times and stuff also. Unfortunately we didn't take a picture of the guy. |

| Vilnius, 307 KB These guys were playing guitars across the street of our lunch restaurant |

| Vilnius, 219 KB IIRC, we went to some antique shop through this yard |

| Vilnius, 190 KB
|

| Vilnius, 173 KB People stopped in front of this tunnel to make a cross with hand |

| Vilnius, 277 KB Walked through a yard of a monastery |

| Vilnius, 247 KB Behind the monestary it was not that nice anymore. |

| Vilnius, 232 KB
|

| Vilnius, 175 KB Some kids playing on an alley |

| Vilnius, 194 KB A couple having beer |

| Vilnius, 222 KB Went to Uzupio for a drink. We expected a bit more artistic atmosphere but naah, it was business and tourism all over. Behind the sign is a nice bar we had beers in. |

| Vilnius, 322 KB A better view to the terrace of the bar |

| Vilnius, 215 KB
|

| Vilnius, 235 KB Some kind of a tivoli or something like that in a park |

| Vilnius, 306 KB We climbed up to the hill of Gediminas' Tower behind the Cathedral. |

| Vilnius, 320 KB We had to go around the wall of the fortress to get in. The fortress is actually the ruins of the Upper Castle. |

| Vilnius, 317 KB The slope on the left is actually quite steep and high, although it doesn't look like it in the picture. Hence the leaning to the wall ;) |

| Vilnius, 127 KB There was a fire in the town, the smoke could be seen from the hill. |

| Vilnius, 219 KB The Gediminas' Tower on the hill. This is the only tower left of the Upper Castle. The museum in the tower is open until 9PM, we were a bit too late. |

| Vilnius, 144 KB
|

| Vilnius, 227 KB Spotted this one on the way down |

| Vilnius, 160 KB After tour de park we went to a very nice bar that makes its own good beer. I have of course forgotten the name of the bar, but it's located on the street that starts from the door of the Cathedral. |

| Vilnius, 156 KB A statue representing the Grand Duke. |

| Vilnius, 313 KB The green building is the Jewish Museum of Vilnius. Some 240 000 jews (90% of all jews in Lithuania) were murdered during the Nazi occupation and a 100 000 of them alone in Vilnius. Very much worth visiting although as a museum it is a bit chaotic. |

| Vilnius, 352 KB A Japanese consul Chijune Sugihara saved 6000 jews by issuing transit visas against the orders of his superiors. This statue was erected to honor him. |

| Vilnius, 100 KB Vilnius TV tower. It's 326m high and there is a restaurant at 165m. Went there to check the views before leaving the town. |

| Vilnius, 171 KB
|

| Vilnius, 296 KB Vilnius, as seen from the TV tower |

| Vilnius, 238 KB Real life. The suburbs of Vilnius. |

| Palanga, 216 KB We rented a room from a B&B some 10km from Palagna center. This nice little dog was welcoming us when we arrived. |

| Palanga, 280 KB "Palagna, the Baltic Ibiza". This small party city is located on the coast of Lithuania, some 30km of their most important harbour, Klaipeda |

| Palanga, 150 KB
|

| Palanga, 212 KB
|

| Palanga, 144 KB Had to go to admire the beach in front of our lodge |

| Palanga, 178 KB Toni trying to take a picture of Mikko and Sini... |

| Palanga, 101 KB ...and the result |

| Palanga, 132 KB Sini collecting her rocks |

| Palanga, 158 KB Chilling at the fireplace in front of the house. |

| Palanga, 152 KB Making food at the fireplace. Of course it started raining in the middle of cooking. |

| Palanga, 180 KB
|

| Klaipeda-Curonian Spit, 237 KB We took a ferry to the Curonian Spit. A very nice "spit" stretching from Klaipeda to russian border. The last kilometers of the spit actually belong to Russia. |

| Nida, 152 KB After Nida there are some HUGE dunes and a lot of sand. |

| Nida, 185 KB And that had to be seen by our own eyes of course. |

| Nida, 250 KB You can see the Russian watch towers from here |

| Nida, 320 KB Making a run down the dune. |

| Nida, 239 KB Statement |

| Nida, 187 KB Playing with the sand |

| Nida, 208 KB
|

| Nida, 287 KB Spying on the Russians |

| Nida, 208 KB
|

| Nida, 141 KB Tried to get down to the water but there were fences denying the access |

| Nida, 137 KB
|

| Nida, 126 KB
|

| Nida, 184 KB This flower was growing alone in the middle of a big field of sand |

| Nida, 158 KB No idea what's the point of this, but there was this big wooden cross with dozens of small ones around it |

| Nida, 172 KB
|

| Klaipeda harbour, 256 KB Metallica heavy best! |

| Palanga, 286 KB After a great day at the Curonian Spit we decided to get some pizza, wine and beer and go for a picnic to our beach |

| Palanga, 304 KB
|

| Palanga, 193 KB I found this bottle with a message on the beach, it had been dated the day before. It was written in Lithuanian so we don't know what it said. |

| Palanga, 135 KB Maarit studying the message. After this we threw the bottle back to the sea. |

| Palanga, 204 KB Mikko playing with the waves |

| Palanga, 163 KB The sun is setting. The views were beautiful. |

| Palanga, 222 KB Maarit looking at the sunset, Sini playing with the rocks and fossiles she found from the beach. |

| Palanga, 195 KB
|

| Palanga, 95 KB Have a background for your desktop, sir. |

| Palanga, 113 KB The two guys in the water were running on the beach barefoot when they suddenly stopped in front of us and started showing off by doing pushups and swimming. |

| Palanga, 117 KB Last moments before dark. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 254 KB On the way from Palagna to Saaremaa we visited this former secret Soviet nuclear missile base. It contains four silos and they had eight missiles ready for launching at all times. You could cover most of the Europe from this base. It operated from 1962 to 1978. Worth visiting but prepare yourself with enough time. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 280 KB It took us some 1,5-2h to visit the base as you can only go in the base with arrenged excursion. This combined with the long wait at the Latvian-Estonian border made us miss the ferry to Saaremaa :/ |

| Soviet nuclear base, 290 KB The kubol would move away to reveal the 27m deep silo for launching or installing the missiles. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 332 KB Entrance to the base |

| Soviet nuclear base, 236 KB The entrance. It's nice they had these warnings visible when you were going out. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 196 KB Inside the base. No idea of the purpose of this room, it wasn't actually illuminated at all, I just pointed the camera in and shot the picture. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 150 KB This generator was used to provide electricity to the base. At least I think it was. The excursion was given in Lithuanian although the demonstrator tried to stop and explain parts of the information in English every now and then. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 178 KB This way to the silo. You can feel the presence of former cold war when you enter the tunnel. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 168 KB Standing next to a 27m fall that had contained nuclear warheads capable of wiping out most of the Europe gives you creeps. The four silos had been dug with shovels by 10000 soldiers brought in from remote parts of the USSR. |

| Soviet nuclear base, 373 KB Someone had painted this date on the concrete. I could not find out what the date means, it could be the date when the soldiers received information that US and USSR had signed a deal that would result in shutting the base down in 1978. |

| Lithuania-Latvia border, 313 KB This nice lady wanted to make friends with Mikko's camera |

| Latvia-Estonia border, 157 KB It took some 0.5 hour to get through. Sini got some fans from the Estonian guys lining after us. The customs let these bastards out before us :( |

| Saaremaa, 333 KB We finally made it to our lodging at Saaremaa. |

| Kuressaare, 199 KB As we could not get tennis turns we decided to go pedalling by boats |

| Kuressaare, 217 KB
|

| Kuressaare, 254 KB Mikko & Sini trying to keep up with the speed of the pedal boat champions Palm & Tissari |

| Kuressaare, 96 KB An ATM machine running OS/2. Crashed when Maarit tried to print a receipt and of course the machine ate Maarit's card. It took the Hansapank two days to get the piece of plastic back. |

| Kuressaare, 94 KB
|

| Saaremaa, 255 KB Mikko & Sini decided to go ride horses so the first thing we had to do was to drive the horses to the stall. |

| Saaremaa, 169 KB ..and we actually managed to do that.. |

| Saaremaa, 315 KB ..but as none of us were smart enough to close the fence, all the 20 or so horses decided to make a run and escape from us. |

| Saaremaa, 182 KB Maarit and Sini pushing the horses |

| Saaremaa, 328 KB I had to document the fact that I have been close to a horse. |

| Saaremaa, 323 KB Mikko & Sini and their horses. Both female, both had offspring, both made a lot of noise near the stalls |

| Saaremaa, 261 KB
|

| Saaremaa, 295 KB
|

| Saaremaa, 236 KB We are already leaving, for some reason all the horses were near the stalls. Probably someone had more authority on them than we did. |

| Saaremaa, 205 KB While Mikko & Sini were riding, Maarit & I drove to the north side of the island. This is what we found. This bank has been used for sacrificing children and throwing them to the sea a few hundred years ago. |

| Saaremaa, 383 KB We hiked a few hundred meters as we wanted to get below the 21m high bank. |

| Saaremaa, 315 KB But we didn't find an easy way down, should've walked a few kilometers or so. |

| Kuressaare, 200 KB In the evening we went to sauna and after that we decided to check the Sunday nightlife of Kuressaare. The only place open after 2am was this disco, so we ended up there |

| Kuressaare, 231 KB
|

| Kuressaare, 221 KB
|

| Kuressaare, 131 KB The nightlife of Kuressaare |

| Kuressaare, 228 KB Chillin' at the lodge at something like 5AM. Mikko in his rapper position. |

| Saaremaa, 115 KB After night out, we went cruising around a few sights. |

| Saaremaa, 337 KB You can actually see to Latvia from this peninsula on a good weather. And good it was today. This is a very good shore for throwing flat rocks to the sea ;) |

| Saaremaa, 203 KB Bigga |

| Saaremaa, 234 KB The peninsula had had a some kind of a Soviet guarding base, which was not in a very good shape anymore. Wonder how that one concrete box had got into the water? |

| Saaremaa, 268 KB Guard on duty |

| Saaremaa, 151 KB Abandoned stuff. There were also one sea mine and a bomb nearby. Or the outer shells of them, actually, so they were harmless. We used the sea mine as a football. |

| Saaremaa, 333 KB Another base used for guarding the Soviet coast. This is a watch tower hidden behind the trees. |

| Saaremaa, 225 KB Barbequeing some estonian sausages. |

| Saaremaa, 157 KB Nice little fella |

| Saaremaa, 99 KB Heavy rain. Had to drop the speed to some 60km/h as the visibility was virtually zero. |

| Saaremaa, 346 KB Ostriches enjoying(?) the rain |

| Saaremaa, 232 KB
|

| Saaremaa, 412 KB Before leaving the islands we wanted to visit the goatse caves that are located on the Muhu island. |

| Saaremaa, 309 KB
|

| Saaremaa, 235 KB Found the caves. Too bad the picture sucks. |

| Saaremaa, 180 KB This tasty looking fellow was hanging from the roof of the cave |

| Tallinn, 173 KB When we got to Tallinn, we went to a Creek restaurant to have a dinner, see the Finnish text in the middle. |

| Tallinn, 148 KB The necessary visit to the Depeche Mode bar. |

| Tallinn, 213 KB Tallinn by night |

| Tallinn, 173 KB Demonic cat |

| Tallinn, 145 KB On board a bicycle taxi |

| Tallinn, 286 KB Some kind of a mediaval festival was on |

| Tallinn-Helsinki boat, 185 KB After smörgåsbord we could hardly have one beer. And would not have had time for more as they closed the bar on our faces. |

| Helsinki, 148 KB Deja Vu. The terminal in Helsinki. |

| Espoo, 170 KB They have a nice coffee brand in Lithuania ;) |
